A Great Fall(s)

In honor of the first day of autumn, which occurred a few days ago, I thought I would post some of my favorite fall images. Since we don't get much of an autumn in Miami it helps to have such reminders that somewhere the leaves are changing.

Fire in the Sky

Camera: Canon SX 200IS
Location: My balcony
Date: June 20, 2011

It seems like every time I take my walk I see amazing skyscapes but I never have my camera with me. On this particular day, I was lucky on two counts:

  1. I was able to sneak my walk in between thunderstorms booming at both my origin/destination.
  2. I was able to snap these sunset shots, which only became progressively more stunning as I got closer to home--and my camera.

Fun with Flowers

Camera: Canon SX 200IS
Location: Morikami Japanese Gardens, Delray Beach; my apt.
Dates: April 21 and May 14, 2011

Whenever I am around flowers, I sniff then snap (a photo that is). These first shots are of a bouquet that a close friend gave to me in celebration of my successful dissertation defense. The rest of the batch were taken at the Morikami Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, which I visited with my family (who had flown in for my graduation). The last shot was taken during a walk around my neighborhood.

The Key to a Slow Tempo...

...is utter natural beauty. Please excuse the pun, I couldn't resist. My friends and I recently went boating in Key Largo, and I was able to capture a few really neat shots. The downside of this adventure, of course, was my intense sunburnt back that resulted. But such are the breaks in paradise.

Magna Luna

Camera: Canon SX 200IS
Location: Miami, FL
Dates: March 19, 2011

The following shots were taken when the moon was a super "perigree moon," which NASA describes as the biggest in almost 20 years. Apparently the best time to see the difference in size is during sunset, when the moon is near the horizon. I was unable to do this, but it looked rather beautiful and was definitely brighter than normal to me near midnight, which is when I snapped these shots. I think if I had a better camera, I would've been able to get closer shots.
